Headway Birmingham & Solihull is looking to recruit an exceptional person to work as a Skills Trainer. The role is based across North & South Birmingham at our branches in Rednal, Moseley and Erdington.
Headway Birmingham & Solihull – Improving life after Brain Injury
Our Specialist Acquired Brain Injury Service, is designed to give brain injured people the opportunity to re-learn lost skills as well as prevent any further deteriorating or isolation.
This can be done by learning coping strategies, modifying inappropriate behaviour, acquiring new skills and interests, meeting with other brain injured people, understanding their brain injury, improving self confidence and accessing community activities.
Skills Trainer / Facilitator – Core Objectives
To be responsible for facilitating activities and developing partnerships and specific HBS activities at the HUBs and in the community for brain injured people and their carers / families.
The Skills Trainer / Facilitator will:
Support the Co-ordinator in the setting up of activities for Community Sports and ensure full programme is managed and achievable.Offer support to find new venues & activities
Plan staff cover for the Community Sports / cover yourself where necessary
Assist and motivate our client in the community at their chosen activity
Organise and control the day to day running of the programme of Activities
Develop networks and partnerships with sports providers and other disabled groups in the community to run specialist and joint activities and competitive sports
Ensure clients are supervised at all times and that staff & volunteers are anticipating and responding to daily occurrences such as changes in behaviour / epilepsy / accidents / quarrels etc.
Will be self assured, self motivated and able to work on own initiative within agree guidelines. Punctual, reliable and trustworthy. Flexible, co-operative and accountable.
Have an open, friendly manner, be a good listener, discreet and able to keep confidences, able to communicate well with professionals, able to inject humour and fun into activity sessions.
Candidates should have NVQ II Health and Social Care and ideally experience of working with brain-injured people / people with disability, previous care / teaching or day centre experience
