Headway Birmingham & Solihull is looking to recruit an exceptional person to work as a Skills Trainer. The role is based across North & South Birmingham at our branches in Rednal, Moseley and Erdington.


Headway Birmingham & Solihull – Improving life after Brain Injury


Our Specialist Acquired Brain Injury Service, is designed to give brain injured people the opportunity to re-learn lost skills as well as prevent any further deteriorating or isolation. 

This can be done by learning coping strategies, modifying inappropriate behaviour, acquiring new skills and interests, meeting with other brain injured people, understanding their brain injury, improving self confidence and accessing community activities.

Skills Trainer / Facilitator – Core Objectives

To be responsible for facilitating activities and developing partnerships and specific HBS activities at the HUBs and in the community for brain injured people and their carers / families.


Key Responsibilities

The Skills Trainer / Facilitator will:


  • Plan, prepare and run training sessions within the agreed programme to include areas of educational skills, IT, BI deficits, art & crafts, social skills, communication and attending college courses & social activities
    • Ensure training materials are reviewed / updated and new session plans introduced
    • It would be advantageous for the Skills Trainer to be able to drive any Headway vehicle, transporting clients across from either centre and driving them out into the community.
    • Have business insurance use to escort clients in own car as needed
    • Overseeing clients safety, comfort and well-being at all times
    • Have responsibility for care staff and volunteers under your supervision


Successful Candidate:

Will be self assured, self motivated and able to work on own initiative within agree guidelines.  Punctual, reliable and trustworthy.  Flexible, co-operative and accountable.

Have an open, friendly manner,  be a good listener, discreet and able to keep confidences, able to communicate well with professionals,  able to inject humour and fun into activity sessions. 

Candidates should have NVQ II Health and Social Care and ideally experience of working with brain-injured people / people with disability, previous care / teaching or day centre experience
