Fast Track Worker-Carer Services



Salary:          £7540.00 per annum (dependent on age & experience)

Hours:           15hours per week - Mon -Fri with some evenings/weekends according to service need

As part of our Carer Services, our new Fast Track Service ensures that Brain Injured People and their families & carers experience as little stress as possible when trying to access support in urgent financial matters.  A new brain injury in the family can often leave them in a difficult financial position as a result of job loss etc.  Families can be allocated a Fast Track worker within 2 working days of contacting HBS to deal promptly and efficiently with their specific needs.  Housing forms / PIP forms and appeals / Work capability assessments / Carers allowance / Tax credits / Blue badge scheme / Housing benefits


Headway Birmingham & Solihull requires a reliable, trustworthy, self assured & self motivated person who has a good appreciation of the local framework of health and social services provision, with experience of dealing with people in traumatic and emotional situations and an understanding of the consequences of brain injury. Experience in finances and the benefits systems available would be advantageous.


A knowledge of carers and the issues they face is also essential, as is the ability to empathize and support vulnerable people at a difficult time in their brain injury journey.


A professional and friendly person, who is well organised and self motivated

You must be able to provide an assessment of the family and the brain injury needs, thus helping the families and brain injured people to move forward with their lives again.


The successful candidate will need the skills to:


  • Provide 1to1 support to Carers/Families to guide them through financial matters from PIP applications, debt management, through to budgeting etc


  • Ensure that information about Headway’s services is communicated effectively to the family / carers of brain injured people,widely in the community through talks, displays and distribution of literature to health and social services, Neighbourhood office, public libraries, CAB’s the media and other carers’ bodies and general community groups


  • Support families to appeal wrong decisions and advocate at Tribunals on their behalf.


  • Apply for grants to support those struggling financially to visit loved ones in hospital etc


  • Travel across all areas of Birmingham & Solihull as required.Use of own vehicle / full driving licence prerequisite of role


  • Produce all required monitoring items accurately and on time.i.e., end of month, expenses, outputs and timesheets


This role is based in Rednal, Birmingham, but will require the post holder to travel / work at other Headway buildings in Moseley & North of Birmingham as well as travelling across Solihull.  A current driving licence is essential, as is ability to use own transport for work purposes
