VACANCY: ABI SUPPORT WORKER
Headway Birmingham & Solihull are a leading ABI - Acquired Brain Injury Charity
We are looking for a confident, caring individual with an understanding of disability and a good sense of humour.
Support Workers work as part of our ABI Services Team. The ABI services teams run services/activities for adults with acquired brain injury every weekday at our 3 hubs across Birmingham.
The Support Worker role is demanding but really rewarding, the focus of this role is delivering activities to help brain injured people who have already been through formal rehab to continue to re-learn lost skills and improve on their journey back to gaining some independence.
Location: Birmingham & Solihull
Salary: £11.78ph, depending on qualifications and experience. HBS grade 4 pay spine 1
Hours: 10 hours per week – Monday & Friday 9.30am-2.30pm each day. Some flexibility required to meet the needs of the charity/services.
Main Base/Area: Based at our Hub in Rubery, however the candidate must be prepared to work at any Headway Birmingham & Solihull site (Moseley and Wylde Green) on pre-agreed occasions as required.

Duties include: -

Ensure that clients’ lunches are prepared and served on time and provide assistance to individuals with feeding and general meal-time skills as required

Encourage clients in their development of personal needs and hygiene skills

Assist ABI Skills Coaches in the preparation, running and recording of activity sessions

Deputise for ABI Skills Coaches as directed in their absence – supervise volunteers and facilitate activity sessions.

Be alert to the safety of clients and others, responding promptly to signals of potential danger
-
Help clients with mobility and toileting as and when required
-
Supervise the arrival and departure of clients each day, including responsibility for collection/return of personal belongings.

Carry out assigned domestic chores at the end of each day, e.g. washing up; tidying and putting materials away.Cover general cleaning duties in the absence of the regular cleaner.

Be flexible to suit the needs of the post and work fairly with the team as required, including taking turns in small extra duties outside of normal hours such as getting the centre supplies or waiting for late taxis etc.

Attend fully any training, coaching or team meetings etc as required, outside the normal working day
Experience and requirements: -

NVQ2 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent/willing to take within the first 2 years of being in role)

Willing to undertake all required training for the role.

Although driving is not a requirement of the role, we welcome anyone who is trained and willing to drive our minibus to assist with transporting clients to community activities (D1 required).

Participation with wider activities of the Headway Birmingham & Solihull Team, through contributing to volunteering on at least one outside of hours event and assisting at one compulsory special fundraising event

Education to GCSE/O-Levels with a good standard of English, Maths, IT and Business Administration qualification.
Previous experience of working with people with disabilities in health and social care with a knowledge of brain injury is desirable.
The successful candidate will require an enhanced DBS, the cost of which will be met by the employer.
